Nine year old Rachel Charles was kidnapped and killed, in November 1990, near Albufeira, Algarve. A British citizen, Michael Cook was arrested and sentenced to 19 years in jail. He said, during the trial, that Police beat him until he confessed the murder. "But the case was mired in claims of police incompetence and corruption", according to a daily British newspaper. British Media, at this moment, is trying to find find enough coincidences to be allowed to write that the two Portuguese defence lawyers of Michel Cook were the target of a murder attempt, perhaps from Portuguese Police, because they had a car accident, some time after the trial, and one of them died.
