My opinion about Gerry and Kate McCann

I don’t believe, as a journalist, that the McCanns are, in any way, related with the abduction of Madeleine. I’ve been following this case, not only in the Web – I was also at Praia da Luz, for one week (May 17 to May 23). For the last two months, I also have followed the news on the Net very carefully and closely.

So, based on all the information I collected, either during my stay in Praia da Luz or in the Net, as a journalist, I CAN’T SEE THE SLIGHTEST EVIDENCE THAT GERRY AND KATE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH HER DAUGTHER DISAPEARENCE.

And I AM ABSOLUTELY SURE, WITH THE INFORMATION I HAVE, NOW, THAT THERE IS NOTHING THE MCCAN CAN BE ACCUSED OF, FROM A LEGAL OR CRIMINAL POINT OF VIEW. I may be wrong, but I STRONGLY BELIEVE THE CHANCE OF BEING WRONG IS VERY SMALL: 0,1 per cent, as I'm 99, 9 per cent sure of what I say.

As a human being, a common man, father of two boys (one, 22 years old, the other 11) let me tell you this: I was at an arm’s distance from the McCanns, when they gave a Press Conference at Praia da Luz. I looked into the eyes of Kate McCann and I saw so much pain and suffering that I had to take a deep breath to control myself, to avoid tears coming to my eyes and not let emotion overcome me! I was schocked to see so much pain in her eyes and in her look! That's someting that only people that has kids can understand and feel!

Yes, I believe you saw pain and suffering in Kate McCann's eyes. Pain and suffering because she lost her daughter. How she lost her daughter remains to be seen. Please have an open mind as evidence mounts.

Thank you.

I whole heartedly agree and also feel that only those who are jealous or whom have no children coud ever suspect anything different. Anyone else in their situation would do anything to get their child back. Given we are in such an age of technology, why not use it to get Madeleine back, I would.
Well said sir!

I feel, what you describe,is true and show a beautiful man that show emotions. A true man.
If we all know the final, any , I believe that Maddie´s Mother will show much pain in her look all her life.

I live on the other side of the globe but had followed the Mccans story hoping that one day, good news will come up about Madeleine. I strongly believe they are innocent. These people are emotionally and physically drained but never surrender in hopes that they will still find their daughter alive. My thoughts and prayers are with them and i believe that their strong faith in God will help them go thru all of these.

I believe the parents went for dinner, and from what I have read from police statements they drank 14 bottles of wine between them and friends, 8 bottles of red and 6 bottles of white wine. This is what was on there dinner bill statement. I believe the mother went back to check on the children and found that little Madeleine had woken and her mother has sedated her, so she could return to dinner, and due to being under the Influnence of Allcohol he has Accidentally killed her by overdosing her.

Dear Mr Reis,
Is this still your opinion today ?
Sometimes, reading your blog, it seems (am I mistaking ?) you changed your mind.
If so, may I ask you why ?

You are quoting an opinio I wrote in June 26, 2007. That was my opinion, at the time, with the facts that were available - not only my opinio, but also the opinion of millions of people, all over the world. Like many millions, I changed my opinion. I can't ingore the fact that PJ, the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Criminal Instruction Court - a three-tier system, where each institution is idependent from the other - agreed they are suspects and have some degree of reponsibility in the disappearance of her daughter.

48 per cent of respondents to a poll, in UK, donne by YuoGov,also think they have somethins to see with what happende to Madeleine.

Regarding first argument and judicial system, it is perfectly receivable — it remains to see if this system is not misled — it happened before, in other european countries, in recent years.

Regarding the second argument, I personally never take polls in account. Asking difficult questions to incompetent people on the matter at hand, and mixing so-called personal feelings with the manifestation of the truth doesnt seem a worthy methode to me.

Regarding the emotion you felt in front of Mrs McCann, and bearing in mind what The Times said in a recent article about a criminal act perpetrated by people who have absolutely no criminal background known to date, it is possible these parents have something thet don't want to say publicly, which is not necessarily a crime or a wrongdoing, but that would be interpreted against them in a legal action. This may happen to any one of us, some mistake which is unconsequenital in normal life, and becomes terribly consequential in abnormal situation.
I dont't want to talk about what I don't know (too many people do that when polled…), or to unduly criticize portuguese judicial system, but some contradictions are perplexing :
- why release suspects if they are so suspects and let them go in another country ?
- why such a delay before some vital forencics were properly done ?
I know all this happened before and elsewhere, but these are real questions, it seems.
I do not exclude the parents have a part of responsibilty (which is it ? impossible to say).
But, at a philosophical and spiritual level, I cannot believe they killed their own daughter and hid the fact, using the media as a huge cover-up.
I may be proved wrong, but I don't think so.
If I am, I will have, and millions of others with me, I suppose, to feel humanly, deeply desperate.
Best regards
Candid

Hi Paulo
I understand that this statement was made in June, however do you still believe that Kate did not have anything to do with her daughter going missing? I only ask this as recently I saw some footage of Kate attending Church a couple of days after madeleine;s dissappearance and I was shocked at the amount of pain and despair in her eyes.

I wish we knew the truth of the evidence. Pain in one's eyes can mean many things, especially now, it all must be painful whether guilty or innocent.

I have stated that some of what we know to be true paints a rather bothersome picture. I am not so bothered that they left their children to have dinner and checked on them, but I am bothered at the possibility that the children may have been drugged, the washing of Cuddle Cat, and the death scent. Personally I think the explanations about the death scent - from Kate's job - is really thin. She would have worn gloves, changed clothes, and showered many times. So this scent that is on Cuddle Cat, the Bible, and going down to the water - all very bothersome indeed – if we are to believe what has been leaked into the media.

The evidence of the scent dogs seems strong even though perhaps not so strong for court use. And as to public opinion, well the public can be easily swayed and without knowing the exact nature of all the Portuguese evidence against the McCanns, we may have only our hunches left, and I hope a body is not necessary for Maddie's killer(s) to be brought to justice - here in the U.S.A sometimes we don't need a body just strong circumstantial evidence - but then we have many appeals -

I can only hope that Madeleine will get justice and the guilty will be prosecuted under Portuguese Law.

What do you say now Mr Reis? Innocent? thats what it should say isnt it?

where are the reports from Mr Grimes and FSS services which warned the PJ about making assumptions?

Where are the other witness statements about Robert Murat being seen as the tapas that night, the 5 statements!!! all from different people (not the McCanns friends)?

It looks like biased reporting to me. Please prove me wrong and report this information in your blog.
